Foreign member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Professor Maija Kukla is the principal investigator of the Kukla Group at the University of Maryland, USA. She received her doctoral degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Latvia. Her research includes condensed matter physics, solid-state chemistry, and materials science, with significant contributions to multiscale modeling and the study of materials under extreme conditions.

Professor Kukla has held senior leadership roles at the U.S. National Science Foundation, where she directed major research initiatives and promoted international scientific collaboration. Her career demonstrates a sustained commitment to scientific excellence and global engagement.
