Symbols
The symbols of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) (colours, Coat of Arms, flag) are determined by a special regulation (see, Jānis Stradiņš. Latvijas Zinātņu akadēmijas simbolika. Latvijas Zinātņu akadēmijas gadagrāmata. 1992/93. – R, Zinātne Publishing, pp. 25-27 (pdf)).
LAS colours are white, azure, and gold. The Academy’s seal contains the Small Coat of Arms of Latvia and includes the inscription “Latvian Academy of Sciences – Academia Scientiarum Latviensis”.
The Academy’s flag was consecrated during the LAS General Meeting on 11 February 1993. The colors used for the flag are white, azure and gold, the inscription “Latvian Academy of Sciences”, the Coat of Arms of Latvia and the years 1815, 1869, 1932, 1936, 1946 and 1992, that mark significant events in the history of the Academy, are embroidered on one side of the flag. On the other side, against the backdrop of azure, white and gold bands, the flag contains the Coat of Arms of the Academy.
The visual attributes of the Coat of Arms of the Academy were approved on 19 December 2002 by the State Heraldry Commission, established by the President of Latvia.
